The program has been initiated by the Ministry of Industries, Government of Bangladesh for capacity building of the Ministry and its subordinate organization in reshaping the future of industrial development. The academic program has been developed in collaboration with Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute with two main components:
- Academic program at Curtin University, Western Australia
- Action research projects in Bangladesh
The academic program had the following components:
- Seminars on core modules
- Seminars on elective modules
- Field visits and case studies
- Workshop on action research scoping
The core modules include:
- Sustainability and sustainable development: concept and measures
- Industry ecology, industry sustainability and sustainable industrialisation
- Action research theories and applications for SDGs localization
- Sustainability issues in Bangladesh: a historic and contemporary evaluation
The seminars on the elective modules include the following topics:
- Australian Government and sustainability responsibilities
- Sustainable waste management
- Green growth and sustainable investment
- Get going with the start ups
- Living Labs and renewable energy transition
- Green innovation and green jobs in Western Australia
- Sustainable cities and transportation
The participants were taken to visit places and projects to have an exposure on the sustainability practices in western Australia. The places include:
- A waste management facility in Perth
- A regional resource recovery centre in Perth
- An industrial park in Perth
- A technology park in Perth
- A mining site in Western Australia
- A holistic agroindustry in Margaret River region
- Eco-village camping in Margaret River region
The participants along with the academic seminars and field visits attended several workshops on:
- Action research project scoping
- Sustainable industrial development best practices
- Action research scoping for implementation in Bangladesh
In the workshops the participants were distributed in groups. Each group has been made responsible for developing an action research project to implement in Bangladesh, within the scope of the industrial policy of the government. The action research projects include:
