SDG Localisation for Sustainable Industrialisation in Bangladesh
The program, initiated by the Ministry of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh, aimed to strengthen institutional capacity for advancing sustainable industrial development. Developed in collaboration with the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute, it combined academic instruction, practical exposure, and applied research to support the localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Bangladesh’s industrial policy framework. The academic component included seminars, case studies, field visits, and workshops on action research design. Core modules covered sustainability concepts and measurement, industrial ecology, sustainable industrialisation, action research for SDG localisation, and an analysis of Bangladesh’s sustainability challenges. Elective modules addressed topics such as sustainable waste management, green growth and investment, renewable energy transition, green innovation and jobs, and sustainable cities and transport. Participants visited sustainability-focused sites across Western Australia, gaining insights into global best practices. Group-based action research projects were developed, focusing on priority areas such as green infrastructure, SME development, technology incubation, and zero-waste industrial systems aligned with national SDG targets.
