SDG Localisation for Sustainable Agriculture in Bangladesh
The National Agriculture Technology Program–Phase II of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Agriculture engaged Circular Economics to deliver an action research initiative focused on localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the agricultural sector. The program aimed to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) to implement sustainable agriculture strategies. Delivered in partnership with the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute and guided by Professor Dora Marinova, the initiative combined academic learning, field exposure, and applied research design. The Australia-based program included seminars, case studies, field visits, and workshops on action research scoping. Core modules addressed sustainability concepts, SDG localisation methodologies, and key agricultural challenges in Bangladesh, while elective modules explored sustainable agribusiness, carbon markets, permaculture, planetary health, and agricultural waste management. Participants visited diverse sustainable agriculture sites across Western Australia, gaining practical insights. BARC participants developed group-based action research projects focusing on lean-season fruit production, sustainable cotton systems, and safe food technology transfer aligned with national SDG priorities.
