Action Research for SDG Localisation in Bangladesh (Program 1 & 2)
The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of Bangladeshi government officials to integrate sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into public policy and development practice. Delivered in collaboration with Curtin University and led by Professor Dora Marinova, it emphasised SDG localisation through action research. The Australia-based academic component included core and elective seminars, workshops, case studies, and field visits focused on sustainability concepts, measurement, action research, and Bangladesh’s sustainability challenges. Elective topics covered areas such as governance, waste management, climate action, energy transition, women’s participation, and sustainable cities, complemented by field visits showcasing best-practice initiatives across Western Australia. After completing the academic programme, 40 public servants formed eight inter-ministerial groups to design and implement action research projects aligned with national policies. Supported by Curtin University and Circular Economics, these projects addressed priority SDGs and informed evidence-based policy refinement in Bangladesh.
